School Closing Information

HOW SOUTH MADISON SCHOOLS PREPARE FOR BAD WEATHER

The Superintendent and the Board of School Trustees hope that school can be open every scheduled day; however, to ensure student safety, schools may be closed some days during the school year due to dangerous weather and road conditions.

WHAT CAN THE SUPERINTENDENT DO TO WITH DANGEROUS CONDITIONS? HOW WILL PARENTS AND STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THESE DECISIONS?
  • Close all of the schools in the district under extreme conditions.

  • Delay the opening of school by up to two hours.  If a delay is posted in the evening, recheck the posting in the morning to see if it has changed. Continue to monitor the posting in the morning, as a school delay may change to a school closing.

  • Dismiss school early under carefully monitored conditions.

  • The Superintendent and his staff will evaluate weather and road conditions before 5:30 a.m.
    *
  • By 6:00 a.m. the message system will call, e-mail, or text registered users. (Please keep your telephone number and email address information current on the Parent Portal.)Local radio & TV stations will announce any closings or delays.

  • When schools are on a two-hour delay, it is possible road conditions will deteriaorate and necessitate a school closure.  When this is the case, school closure will be announced by 8:00 a.m.  Parents, please make arrangements for this possibility.
